Traveling to India

There are many international airports dotted around India with direct flights from the UAE. However, the main ones include Indira Ghandi International in Delhi, Chhatrapati Shivaji International in Mumbai, Kempegowda International in Bangalore and Chennai International Airport in Chennai.

New Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport is located 16 km southwest of central Delhi. The journey time by car or taxi is approximately 30 minutes. The Orange line of the Delhi Metro links New Delhi Station with Terminal 3 of the airport in just 25 minutes. An air-conditioned bus service leaves from the airport’s terminal 3 every 30 minutes, running to Kashmere Gate via the Red Fort, New Delhi Station and Connaught Place.

Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport is located 30 km north of central Mumbai. The journey time by car or taxi is approximately 30 minutes. Trains run to the nearby airport Mumbai CST Terminus and Churchgate for connections to Mumbai and destinations throughout India. Buses 321 and 308 connect the airport with the city’s Metro links. The BEST city bus services 312 and 321 run to the nearby Vile Parle East train station from Terminal 1 and 2 respectively. Bus 35 connects the airport with Dadar Station.

Bangalore Kempegowda International Airport is situated 25 miles from Bangalore. The journey by car or taxi will be approximately 50 minutes. Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation runs an airport shuttle service to various locations in the city from the airport. Shuttles on each of the nine routes run at least once every 30 minutes.

Chennai International Airport is located in Tirisulam, 12 km southwest of the city center. The journey is approximately 45 minutes by car or taxi. Alternatively trains operate from Southern Railway suburban railway station just outside the every 20 to 40 minutes from early morning until late evening, taking around 30 minutes. There is also a bus stop outside the airport which is a relatively long walk from the terminals where bus 18A departs frequently for central Chennai, taking 45 minutes.

When to Go to India

November to March is a good time to get cheap flights to India when temperatures are a little cooler and better for enjoying the beaches and exploring cities on foot. May and June can be stiflingly hot and are also peak times for tourists. Note also that May signals the start of the monsoon season, which starts in Kerala on the southwest coast working its way up the country.

India also hosts a myriad of colorful festivals throughout the year including the Bikaner Camel Festival in January, the Jaisalmer Desert Festival in February, the wonderful Holi Color Festival in March, Ganesh Chaturthi in September and beautiful Diwali Festival of Lights in October. The ski resorts in the Himalayas also come to life in winter, ideal for those who love to ski while summer is a good time to visit if you want to go trekking in the mountains, or if you’re planning to see wildlife.

What's the Weather Like in India?

Indian weather is split into three seasons: winter (November to February), summer (March to May), and monsoon (June to October). Winter is the best time to visit most of the country, particularly the beaches of Goa and the area of Rajasthan, as the heat in summer can be too hot to handle. India starts heating up in February and by April temperatures can reach 40°C. The south can be a little cooler during summer, but it is more humid. It doesn’t rain all the time during monsoon season, but the rains can be very heavy.
