Culture is very important in Qatar and can be explored at its many museums as well as the Katara cultural village which hosts many interesting events each year. Souq Waqif in central Doha, inspired by traditional Arabic marketplaces, is another must-visit and offers a wide selection of restaurants and shops. Outdoor activities are also very popular with locals and travelers and include watersports such as jet skiing and kite-surfing as well as exploring the sand dunes on a safari tour.
Flights to Qatar
The only international airport in Qatar is Hamad International Airport, replacing the previous Doha International Airport. The airport opened on April 2014 and handles over 32 million passengers each year. Many leading airlines provide cheap flights to Qatar from destinations as far as London and New York. The airport is the main hub of Qatar Airways, the national carrier of the country. Most visitors will require a visa in order to enter Qatar either upon arrival or before flying. Additionally, select nationals from countries including UAE and Bahrain do not require a visa to enter the country.
When to visit Qatar
Summer temperatures can reach scorching highs between May and September, so many choose to visit between October and March when the climate is a lot cooler. The hottest months are regarded as the off-season for visitors, while the Christmas and New Year period can become particularly busy.
