Convenient Location, Comfortable Stay and Great Food at Cafe 1274!

I stayed at this hotel while my husband was receiving care at the Ottawa Heart Institute, which is just a 20-minute walk away. The location turned out to be incredibly convenient, with a 24-hour Shopper’s Drug Mart directly across the street, and a small mall next door offering a variety of services including a hair salon, nail spa, bank, restaurant, food court, and Service Ontario. I ended up extending my stay several times as my husband's condition improved.
I was pleasantly surprised by the area. Normally, I order takeout via Uber Eats, but this time I decided to try the hotel’s restaurant, Cafe 1274, located in the basement. The atmosphere was cozy with a bar and a pool table. I was so impressed by the food that I made it a point to dine there every evening after returning from the hospital. Everything I tried was delicious, from the Cranberry Brie Chicken Wrap to the Deluxe Burger, wings, salad, wine and even breakfast. The staff, particularly the servers at Cafe 1274- Lauren, An and Neslie- were friendly and attentive, and I want to give a special shoutout to the chef for consistently preparing great meals!
I stayed in a two-queen bed room on the 1st floor for 4 nights. The room was spacious and cozy, though I did find it noisy at times. I could hear doors slamming, people walking by, and staff cleaning rooms, which disrupted my sleep. The air conditioning worked very well, though. Afterward, I moved to a king bed room on a renovated floor for the next 3 nights. This room was much quieter, brighter, and more spacious. However, the bathtub was outdated and shallow, which was a bit of a downside if you’re looking to take a relaxing bath. I used the laundry facility located in the basement. One washer and dryer are coin-operated, and the other washer and dryer accept card payments via tap. It’s $4 for each load.
Overall, I had a pleasant stay and would definitely return, especially because of the food and the hotel's great location!

Great location and good service.

I was pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to a larger room with more amenities. The location of the hotel is perfect for my visits to my sister in Ottawa making it an easy and pleasant choice. Booking direct with Best Western is simple and while I could do it through third party sites, there is sufficient BW rewards to keep things simple and direct.

Clean and helpful staff. Had to change rooms because downstairs room window didn't lock. Very polite about changing room and upgraded to a suite.

Great place to stay in Ottawa

The room was clean, comfortable and well appointed. The staff were very courteous and helpful with ideas for local sites and activities to enjoy. The restaurant/lounge that is located in the hotel serves excellent food and decent prices. Will stay there again on next trip to Ottawa.

Christmas Eve and Christmas day was quiet and I was beside an elevator. By Dec 26 the place got busier and the elevator was so loud and I couldn't sleep, thankfully my earplugs worked to help me sleep. The next morning I asked to move to a new room which was fine and they allowed. Moved three doors down on the second floor and it was even more loud! People were talking and it sounded like it was in my room. People knocking on other doors and slamming their doors all night, if they just closed their door it would sound like a slam and it would make my door rattle. The heating system was good and it didn't make the air dry. The place looks old and run down. Staff are nice but the condition is very poor. It's a good place to stay if you are visiting someone in the hospital as it's just a 15 minute walk to the Civic. Rockin Johnnys across the road and a 24-hr shoppers that was open everyday during the holidays was super helpful. If you have a good set of ear plugs and just need a place close to the Civic that is affordable this is an acceptable hotel, otherwise don't stay here, you could get a more modern and quiet hotel for the same place somewhere else.
